Navajo Lake is a year-round fishery offering something for all types
and sizes of fishers. The spring kicks off with the onslaught of
crappie fishing, a favorite with the regulars at the lake. At
the same time, large and smallmouth bass begin their pre-spawn feeding. Late
spring to early summer is your best bet to try for the trophy size ‘smallies’ that
inhabit Navajo Lake. At the same time, don’t forget the
large northern pike that can be caught during the entire year. Specimens
up to twenty pounds are common. Late May and throughout the
summer signals the pursuit of the kokanee salmon. Trolling
for this delicacy is one of the main attractions at Navajo Lake.
Kokanee
salmon are also famous for their spawning ritual which begins in
October and runs well through November. Bag limits
are liberal during this time and anglers are allowed to ‘snag’

spawning
fish with treble hooks. Don’t overlook the fantastic
brown trout fishing, especially in late spring when fish as large
as twenty pounds have been caught. Other species of fish which
inhabit the reservoir include rainbow trout, bluegill, channel catfish
and perch.
